Welcome to the Blog for the 2009 International Day of Peace in Ajo, Arizona!
The International Sonoran Desert Alliance, in collaboration with the local school district, businesses and civic organizations, will hold its 6th annual International Day of Peace celebration in Ajo, AZ, Sept. 20 & 21.
International Day of Peace, or IDOP as we like to call it around here, was made official by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001 as “an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date”. It is a call to Ceasefire, a day to examine our own conflicts, and a time to spread the power of peace. Every year all over the world IDOP gets bigger and bigger, with millions of people participating in their own way.
In Ajo this is our 6th year celebrating the International Day of Peace, and it has grown like crazy. Check back with us to see updates and photos as we prepare for our big day. The work starts now, and so does the community coming together from three distinct cultures: Tohono O’odham, Hispanic and Anglo to spread the message of peace and create some of our own.
Thanks!!
